The Gambling in Canada Project drew to a close in November 2001 with the release of the projects final report and recommendations. The project draws conclusions that focused on four main areas of gambling policy:
- the impact of lottery grants and charitable gaming on the non-profit sector
- opinions and attitudes on the public policy implications of gambling
- the history and scope of gambling in Canada
- the socio-economic impact of gambling on Canadian communities
Internationally recognized as one of the most comprehensive reviews of gambling that has ever been undertaken, the four years of gambling research by Canada West Foundation has produced more than 700 pages of printed material in 18 reports. Research topics were wide-ranging and included internet gambling, First Nations on-reserve gambling, the ethics of charitable involvement in gambling, gambling profits and losses, the social cost of gambling, and the public desire for gambling.
Gambling research at Canada West Foundation was overseen by Canada West Foundation Senior Policy Analyst Jason Azmier. Any requests for additional information on the activities of Canada West related to gambling should be directed to him at azmier@cwf.ca.
